Mascotte is a small, fast-growing city in the farm country of south Lake County, out west of Clermont and Groveland. Beyond the compact town center, much of the area is rural and agricultural, and those homes and farms rely on private wells tapping the Floridan Aquifer, commonly 100 to 400 feet down. For them, a failed pump stops both the household and, often, the irrigation.
Like the rest of the region, Mascotte's water runs through Florida limestone, so it carries hardness and mineral scale. Over the years, that scale builds inside pumps, pressure tanks, and check valves until something fails, and a submersible scaled into its casing is one of the trickier jobs to free without harming the well.
