Longwood dates to 1878, making it one of the oldest communities in Seminole County, and it has kept a historic core surrounded by mature, wooded neighborhoods. That age is why wells are still common here. The older homes near the historic district and the shaded, established lots around town frequently draw their water from private wells tapping the Floridan Aquifer, commonly 100 to 400 feet down, even as newer subdivisions run on city water.
Central Florida's limestone makes that water hard and mineral-rich, so scale steadily builds inside pumps, pressure tanks, and check valves until something fails. A submersible scaled into its casing is one of the trickier problems to free without harming the well, and we take our time with it rather than forcing it.
