Fitting a coupling on a Central Florida well line

Before we quote an irrigation pump in Ocoee, we establish what the property is actually set up to irrigate with, because the answer varies across the city.

Ocoee runs a municipal reclaimed water system that supplies more than four million gallons a day for irrigation, and where it reaches a property, the status of a private irrigation well changes. That decides whether your pump is worth repairing, worth replacing, or better left where it is. It is a short conversation that happens before any price.

What Reclaimed Water Did to the Irrigation Well in Ocoee

Fitting a coupling on a Central Florida well line

Ocoee is its own water utility, and alongside the potable system, it operates a reclaimed water distribution system that supplies more than 4 million gallons per day for irrigation to residential and commercial areas, fed by the Ocoee Wastewater Treatment Facility, with supplemental supply from Orange County and CONSERV II. A reclaimed network that size is not a pilot scheme. It is infrastructure that serves many lawns.

Coverage is not the whole city. The City's own utility mapping shows a bounded reclaimed water service area, a separate north service area boundary, and a distinct layer for subdivisions with reclaimed water service. Plenty of Ocoee addresses sit outside all of that. The City's potable services map carries a combined category labeled "Vacant or Domestic Well- 1,931 Properties". It does not split the two, so it is an upper bound on private wells rather than a count of them, but it is the City's own figure, and it is not a small one.

The part that catches owners out is a St. Johns River Water Management District rule rather than a city one. Under Rule 40C-2.042(2)(a)4., when reclaimed water is available, the use of a private irrigation well for landscape irrigation is not authorized under the District's general permit. The rule defines the trigger precisely: reclaimed water is deemed available when it is provided by a utility through a point of connection.

Read that carefully, because it is narrower than the version that gets repeated. The rule removes the general permission that otherwise covers the well for lawn irrigation. By its terms, it does not require capping, abandonment, or disconnection of anything. What the City does prohibit is cross-connecting the reclaimed system with potable or well systems. What the City requires of a property connecting to reclaimed, whether connection is available at a given address, and on what terms, are all questions for the City of Ocoee Utilities Department.

Ocoee's own landscape irrigation ordinance, Chapter 175, adopts the District schedule locally and, by its own terms, applies to all property and each person within the city limits. Two Ocoee details are worth knowing. Reclaimed customers may irrigate on any day, with the middle of the day recommended rather than restricted for them. And Ocoee's definitions cover addresses ending in a letter followed by a digit, with A through M treated as even and N through Z as odd.

Ocoee Irrigation Problems we Get Called Out to

Pentair pump control box mounted on a post - Pump Repair Services, Orlando FL

Some of these are a pump. Some of them are a controller, a switch, or a supply question. Telling them apart is the job.

  • A system that worked until a utility connection went in on the street
  • An irrigation well that has sat unused for a season and will not restart
  • A pump that hums or trips but will not come up to pressure
  • Sprinklers running fine on reclaimed while a separate well system sits dead
  • A pump short-cycling hard enough that you can hear it from the house
What we cover

Why Ocoee Homeowners and Property Managers Call us

01

Ocoee is inside our core service area

We are set up for West Orange County, and an emergency here guarantees a 2-hour arrival for a water-out emergency.

02

Diagnosis on site, then a single price

We test the pump, the pressure side, the switch, and the controls in person and find the actual fault, then give you one all-in price after an on-site diagnosis with no add-ons once we start.

03

Forty years of well and pump work behind it

Wells and pumps are all this company does. The team brings over 40 years of experience in the trade; we are licensed and insured, and every job carries a 100% workmanship warranty for 5 years.

04

We will tell you when the answer is not a pump

Sometimes the fault is a controller, a valve, or the supply arrangement itself, and sometimes the honest answer is that a new pump would not fix what is actually wrong. We say so.

The detail

Repair It, Replace It, or Leave it Where it is

An irrigation pump that has failed in Ocoee raises a question that a failed pump in a rural part of the county does not. If the property has reclaimed water available at the point of connection, the well's authorization to irrigate the landscape has changed, and installing a replacement pump in that arrangement may solve the wrong problem.

It does not follow that the well is finished. A well can serve purposes other than landscape irrigation, and the City sets the terms of any reclaimed connection. What follows is only that the sequence matters: find out what the property can run, then decide what the pump is worth.

Where the well is the system and will stay the system, it is ordinary pump work, and we get on with it. Whether that is your situation is something we confirm on-site rather than assume based on the address.

Three Things Worth Checking Before You Call

Hoist hook and drop pipe rigged on the service boom

None of these need tools, and any one of them can shorten the visit. Call (407) 809-8805 either way, and we will take it from wherever you get to.

Find out what feeds your sprinklers. A reclaimed meter, a city meter, or a wellhead each point somewhere different, and knowing which one you have tells us what to bring.

Check whether the controller is calling at all. If the display is dark or the program has been wiped, the pump may never have been asked to start, and that is a different visit.

Note which zones failed and which were fine. A whole system down and one zone down are rarely due to the same fault, and the pattern is the most useful thing you can tell us over the phone.

Irrigation Pump Repair FAQ

Ocoee Irrigation Questions

Emergency call
(407) 809-8805
01Does reclaimed water mean I have to shut down my irrigation well?

The District's rule says that when reclaimed water is available, meaning provided by a utility through a point of connection, a private irrigation well is not authorized for landscape irrigation under the general permit. That removes a permission and, by its terms, does not require capping or disconnection. What the City requires at your address is a question for the City of Ocoee Utilities Department.

02Which days can I water in Ocoee?

Ocoee's Chapter 175 follows the District schedule. Under Daylight Saving Time, odd-numbered addresses and properties with no address water Wednesday and Saturday, even-numbered addresses Thursday and Sunday, and non-residential properties Tuesday and Friday. Under Eastern Standard Time, it drops to Saturday for odd, Sunday for even, and Tuesday for non-residential. No irrigation between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., no more than three-quarters of an inch per zone, and no more than an hour per zone on a watering day. Reclaimed customers are exempt from the day restrictions, and a shortage order can override them, so check the District's watering restrictions page for the current status.

03My address ends in a letter. Which schedule is that?

Ocoee has thought of it. The city's definitions treat an address ending in the letters A through M as even and N through Z as odd, alongside the usual digits.

04Can I keep a reclaimed connection and a well on the same property?

The City is clear that the two systems must not be cross-connected. On anything beyond that, ask the City before you plumb it, and we will work to whatever answer you get.
